In 1500’s the Spanish colonizers led by Ferdinand Magellan stepped on the Philippine soil.  They succeeded in conquering the Philippines as Filipinos cuddle Catholicism.  Religion became the stronghold of Spanish occupation in the Philippines.

As years passed by, Catholicism grew stronger that increased the number of Filipinos embracing the religion and expanded the catholic territorial domain in the archipelago.  In 1581, Franciscan missionaries established a pueblo called Tacboan, which later became Indan – the former name of Vinzons, where they had first introduced the Catholic Faith.  It was established in 1581 but it was only in 1611 that the Church was built with Saint Peter as the Patron Saint.  Probably there was a chapel or perhaps an altar, a simple cross, or an image of Saint Peter.

Vinzons is known for its religiosity.  The town has contributed priests and nuns to the Church more than any other town in the province while its religious activities are flocked with catholic devotees fully embracing the Catholic conviction.

Despite the numerous transformation and fast transfusion of cultures between civilizations, the young town of Vinzons will always embrace the values and attitudes that its old Church seeks to beseech to its believers.
